This Day in 1960 US Olympic Hockey
Feb. 8, 1960 – Squaw Valley, CA – The International Hockey Federation cancelled plans for a nine-team round-robin format, in exchange for an elimination format. The new format calls for three three-team groups, with the top two teams moving on to a six-team round robin to determine the champion. In other news, fears of a flood in Squaw Valley subside when a blizzard rocks the Olympic Village, knocking down trees and statues. Ski runs were also damaged, but officials promise that everything will be ready in time for the games.
